BEFORE YOU GO TO SCHOOL OR GET ANY ART INSTRUCTION
For anyone thinking of going on to study painting
Of the many courses, instruction and schools available today we find that a focus on the materials of painting is being overlooked. Paint, pigments and their binders are the most basic of our painting tools. When we understand their properties we open into a world of endless possibilities for our adventure in painting.
Before you go back to school
Before you go back to school, find out about the materials that can give you the most flexibility in your approach and your process. Consider what can be gained if you come to an understanding of materials that accelerates your learning experience and gives your work a distinctive appearance. Consider some of these products and consider taking some instruction in materials.
Before you go to a university for art education
If you are going to be going on to university consider taking some instruction prior because most programs do not cover the basics of paint materials enough. Before you purchase your materials learn about dispersions and how to use them because they will save you hundreds and hundreds of dollars and make learning more fun.
Dispersions and how to use them
As we have said, the use of dispersions is easy, safe and one of the most economical tools a painter can find today. Pigments Plus developed a palette of dispersions many years ago and they are the type we recommend. Each color is a specific pigment (no blends); they have no fillers or additions of acrylic or any substance that limits their use.
The pigments are finely ground and suspended, in water, in very concentrated quantities of the high quality pigments. You simply stir them into the medium and proceed with your normal procedure of painting. You can make a quantity of each color prior to working, or you can use them as you need them. They are completely compatible with both oil and any waterbased paints or mediums. They are the base of the commercially prepared artist paints on the market today.
