Studio Courses
THOUGH WE CAN ARRANGE FOR INSTRUCTION, AS YOU WILL FIND BELOW The new direction that we are taking is to put as many TRICKS online as we can! Like simply learning how 'bay oil' can become a major cleanup device in the studio of an 'oil painter' or how to 'sun thicken oil' and save a pile of money!
This section will - Attempt - to stay focused on things one does in the studio to make the operation, 'process' flow better and will be from the habits myself and others have adopted to make the studio safer and more 'friendly'. And from time to time will answer questions that arrive via email. We will perhaps set up a separate email folder for such questions but for now you might consider using the Email from the tdpArts Gallery online (as we tend to check those on a daily basis; besides it is a pool of photo images that can and will be used to discuss 'Looking at Nature' which will be a large part of the issues on this site. With more than 150 photos, from all the seasons and in all sorts of conditions, spending time with the images can be a big learning experience - especially for artists that can not get into the remote rural or wilderness as much as they like...And of course it is our 'HAT'! With no obligations! We invite you to look and there is an Email Function in the upper right corner of the main page... Go to tdpArts Gallery online
MATERIALS & TECHNIQUES INSTRUCTION WITH STRONG EMPHASIS ONE-ON-ONE REMAINS AN OPTION BUT MOST PEOPLE SHOULD SIMPLY SAVE THE MONEY BY GRASPING THE SIMPLE Tips & Tricks TO COME!
If you live in the Hudson Valley you can arrange to be part of small size instruction sessions at the Palenville studio. All levels of instruction; class size is limited to four or less students per session during the winter months. Sessions range 2-3 hours depending on class size and techniques being covered. Private instruction is also available upon request.
A special note to High School Seniors who are going on to a University or College for Art: Before you go to your University program get a solid base on the materials and different mediums that will cut costs and make your learning experience more enjoyable. This base of materials is generally by-passed by such institutions. There are also products that many professors are not aware of that allow you more access to different mediums. Much of the cost for painting materials can be lowered.
Teach the Teacher - Take a seminar that gives you hands-on experience with new materials that will aid both you and your students at the Palenville studio. Most helpful to High School and Middle school teachers. Include it in a painting vacation and take advantage of the historic motifs of this famous gathering place of the 19th century Hudson River School artists.
Attention: Coming soon, studio instruction in French at the Palenville studio by Nicole Lemelin, a Montreal artist. Ask for details.
